Hosabettu (called Posodi in the local Tulu language) is the 8th Ward in Mangalore City
Corporation, Dakshina Kannada District, Karnataka State. The latitude and longitude of this
Ward are 12.976 degree North and 74.804 degree East. The total geographical area of
Hosabettu ward is more than 1200 acres. Earlier it was known as Hosabettu Mandal
Panchayat. Later Govt. Of Karnataka formed Hosabettu ward by merging parts of 3 villages
namely Hosabettu village, Iddya village and Kulai village. It is just 12 km away from
Mangalore city area. On the outskirts, within a radius of around 500 meters, lies the
beautiful Arabian sea beach on the west; major industries like MRPL, BASF, HPCL on the
East; historical Baggundi Lake on the South and the renowned National Institute of
Technology Karnataka on the North. N.H. 66 and Konkan Railway Line pass through this
Ward. People belonging to all religions live here in harmony with each other. Naturally it
has grown as a vibrant residential locality accommodating around, 3000+ houses with a
population of around 16,000.
